How Losing weight though our med spa in Springfield MA can help improve your overall health and reduce your risk for chronic medical conditions like diabetes and hypertension: If there was one thing that you could do in order to improve all other aspects of your health, would you do it?

Losing weight will help reduce your risk of high sugars (diabetes), high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), heart disease (coronary artery disease), fatty liver, sleep apnea, and so many other conditions. Losing weight is the one thing you can do which will benefit all aspects of your health. 


Furthermore, it is no secret that obesity increases your risk of so many adverse health events. For example, being obese can increase your risk of hypertension. Though sometimes certain chronic diseases can be due to factors beyond your control such as your genetics, there are times when your lifestyle can contribute a huge factor to your health. 


When your lifestyle and weight play a critical role in your chronic medical conditions, the best way to improve that is by managing your lifestyle itself. As a primary care provider, I have seen patients go from being chronically hypertensive, to having normal blood pressure readings, simply because they were able to lose weight and achieve a healthier BMI. This may not always be the case in every situation, but my point is that achieving a healthy weight can reduce your risk of many chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.


In fact, as a primary provider, oftentimes I recommend weight loss as the cornerstone when treating patients with all types of conditions. It is sometimes easier to tell patients to focus on one thing, rather than give them multiple things to address - this can sometimes overwhelm a patient.


Actually, if I was to discuss with a patient how to follow a low carb diet to manage their sugars, eat a low fat diet to manage their cholesterol, and eat a low sodium diet to manage their blood pressure, it would easily stress them out. 


There are times when I will specifically emphasize that a patient should focus on a particular type of diet in order to address a predominant condition. However, if everything is mildly/moderately elevated, and the patient is obese, I usually advise patients to focus on weight loss, as that usually helps address everything else.

Though we do not operate our clinic as a primary care office, we work with our clients and their primary care providers in order to improve their overall health.
